Power

Our company presently generates Power for captive use in Jharkhand. Our Power generation capacity is at 71.1 MW presently, while we have begun work to expand it to 111.1 MW be end of December 2009.

With a view to reach the zero-enregy loss mark, our company has set up Power Plants to recycle the waste heat gases which emit from our DRI Kilns and Blast Furnaces. Our Power Plant at Jharkhand is also the first such to utilise solid wastes such as Dolochar and Coal Fines generated during production processes as feed for generating power. With such extensive recycling of Waste Heat and Solid Wastes being undertaken, our company not only has access to the cheapest source of power for its massive requirement, but such endeavours has strengthened our company's commitment to generate Green Power.

Our Power Plants are eligible for CDM Benefits under the Kyoto Protocol. While the Power Plant at Jharkhand has already received the necessary approvals for CDM benefits, the one at Jharkhand is in the final stages of receiving them. The Carbon Credits that we receive will seek to serve as an additional source of income to our Group.
